Green Tuesday: Catalog Choice

Is your mail box overflowing with catalogs that end up cluttering your home and filling your recycle bin? Not surprisingly, catalogs are responsible for the destruction of 8 million tons of trees each year (http://www.catalogchoice.org/#environmentalfacts). Getting the catalog printed and into your mailbox and then back to the recycling facility or landfill(!) generates additional greenhouse gases and waste. However, there is a new service called Catalog Choice that lets you opt out of catalog mailings. From their website: “The mission of Catalog Choice is to reduce the number of repeat and unsolicited catalog mailings, and to promote the adoption of sustainable industry best practices. We aim to accomplish this by freely providing the Catalog Choice services to both consumers and businesses. Consumers can indicate which catalogs they no longer wish to receive, and businesses can receive a list of consumers no longer wanting to receive their catalogs.” Signing up is easy, and they have an extensive database of common catalogs. Go visit Catalog Choice and start thinning out your mailbox.
