Nearly there... I can smell it! I think this sweater (Men's Zipped Raglan from Last Minute Knitted Gifts) will be off the needles this week. This is the biggest knitting project I have taken on (and nearly finished). So very excited!!

I feel loved :) the husband made delicious french toast this morning, topped off with local, organic strawberries. What a great way to start the week!

089/366 - Miss Fancy Pants
All done! Pattern has been uploaded to ravelry, (and if you're sarah, can you please send me an email to hannah 8 ball at gmail dot com because for some reason blogger won't let me see your profile or your email address to respond to you). Little bit will get to try it on tomorrow for the official photo shoot.
This was a lot of fun. Hopefully, others will be able to understand my pattern :)

We broke out the homemade play dough today. It was so much fun! With 1/2 a cup of salt, the stuff tastes nasty, so it doesn't get consumed by the toddler :)
In fact, near the end of the play time, she was pretending to eat the play dough, making chewing noises, and then offering it to the husband and I to try ourselves. Unfortunately, the last time she did that, she got tiny bit in her mouth as she was pretending. She tried so hard to keep a straight face as she held it out for us to eat it, and then lost it as she spit out the nasty. It was classic.
The husband used his play dough to make a fake finger... I can't believe how realistic it looks!

Nearly there! The first leg has been completed and the pattern went off without a hitch! I'm still not sure whether someone else can duplicate, as I went more with my gut, but we shall see :)
My mom is already signed up to test knit... any other takers?

My backyard - from an ant's perspective. These weeds/wildflowers in my backyard are so compellingly delicate and sturdy. And they are everywhere. Who wants/needs grass when you can have such gorgeous wildflowers?

In celebration of the full moon, here is a picture of it shining through my office window. This picture really doesn't do it justice... it was absolutely gorgeous.

Seems the flickr post to blog isn't working too well today. If you feed this, sorry for the multiple posts. I guess we'll do this the old fashioned way then :)
Little Bit has taken to sorting pens, pencils, markers... pretty much anything that is pen-like. This jar sitting in the afternoon sunlight caught my eye. Perhaps she'll be an interior designer?

According to news reports, it dumped 6 inches of rain on our area today. It felt like I was in the biblical flood. I got out and shot this during a lull.

Even at this young age of 15 months, Little Bit has definite opinions of what she wants to wear. Today it was a sleeper with sandles. I love it!

And here it is, the first repeat of my shortie design! I decided to use the Fancy Moss Stitch Lattice from Barbara Walker's A Treasury of Knitting Patterns. I translated it into a chart, and then into the round. I decided to not do the wrong side crosses, and I'm really happy with that choice. I think I will call this: Miss Fancy Pants. :)
Now, if I can figure out how to get this to split nicely for the legs...

I wound up a skein of Peace Fleece (colorway Grasshopper) for my next shortie project. Spring is quickly taking over, and it's time to get the growing girl outfitted with a new spring wardrobe. So I've been going through my stitchionary trying to find just the right pattern to use in my design.
It seems the knitting lull has left with the winter weather :)

Today was one of those days where you just want to stick your tongue out at everyone. So, I let my toddler do it for me :)
It feels better somehow.

There is something really beautiful about getting to explore spring and all its newness with a young child. It makes everything else so worthwhile!
No knitting here
I finally ripped and restarted Jason's sweater. I counted everything 5 times and reattached the first sleeve upside down. Yeah. Rip again. However, things seems to be moving along as well as can be expected. And for what it's worth, it's fairly mindless knitting, so it's my go-to lately.
Firebird is relaxing. It's too complicated right now. I look at it and wish I could pick it up, but I have a few concerns:
1. I haven't been able to try it on, so I'm not convinced its big enough to fit around my foot. I could take it off the needles, but that'd be extra work. Instead, I just look at it, and feel it, and measure my gauge. And then go back to the sweater.
2. I have a row gauge problem, mine is bigger than the recommended. And I have a smaller foot than what the pattern is built for, so how many cable repeats to do before starting the gusset? It takes too much brain power, so I look at it, and feel it, and measure my gauge, and go back to the sweater.
You should check out the new knitty. Everyone is raving. I particularly like Yosemite. I am considering getting the yarn for it. It's knit in the round, it has cables, a shawl collar. It has my name written all over it.
But then I already have a perfectly good spring knit languishing on the needles. Remember Isabella? Well, I think she's headed for the frog pond. I figured out I was doing my yarn overs backwards, and I made a few stitch count errors at the beginning, all of which is enough for me to start over. I actually have a job where I could wear this, so it's made its way back onto my radar.

Daylight Savings time came so early this year! I'm not certain I was ready, but the daylight at night is nice.
Of course, now that we've extended Daylight Savings time, apparently it's not saving us any energy!

We gardened today (despite it being only 50 degrees (brrr!). Little Bit absolutely loved it. And the gardening itself wasn't too bad either.
If you have a Ravelry ID, you should go check out a contest the Project 365ers are having. Vote for the best photo submitted during February! There are some pretty amazing shots. Definitely makes me want to take a photography class and get out of this amateur stage.Friday, March 7, 2008

We got snow, but not enough to even cover everything. I got up early to get these shots, but by now (9:30) it's all but gone. It was pretty while we had it!
Here's another shot of the dusting.
And a bonus of the nandina berries - so delightfully red!

Here's more on the water theme - ice on the window. Believe it or not, Texas seems to have decided to have a winter after all! We're rumored to be getting an inch or two of snow today, but so far, it's been a whole lot of rain, and a bit of sleet. Keep your fingers crossed!

This is part of the theme for Project 365 this week - water. I won't tell you how much water I spilled trying to get this photo. :)

In the last week we have been inundated with campaign mailers. Funny thing is that the husband has been identified as a potential Obama supporter and I've been pegged as a Clinton supporter.
We went to cast our votes today at lunch time. Now we just wait and see what everyone else decided.

It took me 2 hours to get in to work this morning. That's an average of 25 mph. Ugh. The nice thing was that I got to leave early (4pm) so I could get home at a reasonable time.
It's been rather frustrating that I've been getting up earlier and earlier and arriving later. No more, next week, I'm doing the 7-4 shift. I've got my fingers crossed the drive in will be much more reasonable.
